You Can't Beat a Healthy Heart
Happy Valentine’s Day on behalf of the entire BioSig Family. As today of all days is dedicated to hearts during nationally recognized American Heart Month, now is an ideal time to educate oneself on the risks associated with heart disease, and the steps you need to take now to help your heart. Heart disease doesn’t only affect older adults. The disease is now being diagnosed in greater numbers in young adults. Heart disease—and the conditions that lead to it—can affect anyone. High rates of obesity and high blood pressure among younger people (ages 35-64) are putting them at risk for heart disease earlier in life. Half of all Americans have at least one of the top three risk factors for heart disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking).
Heart disease, heart attacks, heart failure, arrhythmia (Atrial fibrillation or AFib is type of arrythmia), heart valve problems all fall under cardiovascular disease.
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women and around 630,000 (1 in 4) people die of heart disease in the U.S. each year. Heart disease costs the U.S. about $200 billion each year, including the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity according to the CDC.
While the bad news is that everyone is at risk for heart disease – even children, the good news is there are ways to help prevent heart disease such as not smoking, eating a heathy diet, exercising, regular doctor’s visits, reducing stress, and maintaining a healthy weight and in some cases medication and/or surgery.
There are several ways to diagnose heart disease depending on the specific conditions. Electrocardiogram (ECG), Echocardiogram, Stress Test, Cardiac computerized tomography (CT) scan, Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Cardiac catheterization, blood tests and X-rays are some of the different ways to diagnose with a doctor.
American Heart Month is all about heart disease awareness. It is never too early or too late to learn more about heart disease and do necessary things to lower risk. At BioSig, we are glad to help and raise awareness. Our main goal is to deliver technology to improve upon catheter ablation treatments for the prevalent and potentially deadly arrhythmias, Atrial Fibrillation and Ventricular Tachycardia with our PURE EP™ System.
