Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month: Week Three

Greetings,

As we continue with Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month, a focus should be placed on the effect of arrhythmia on the body. Defined as a condition in which the heart beats with an irregular or abnormal rhythm, arrhythmia encompasses thirteen different conditions that span from premature atrial contractions, which do not require treatment, to ventricular tachycardia, which is responsible for 330,000 deaths in the US per annum*.

As discussed last week, preventative measures can be taken to reduce one's risk of developing an arrhythmia, and simple lifestyle changes can also be made to help manage an existing arrhythmia.

If not treated, arrhythmias can have devastating consequences: as one example, arrhythmia is directly linked to high blood pressure, or hypertension. According to the data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 7 of every 10 people having their first heart attack have high blood pressure**. Sustained high blood pressure is not always symptomatic, but it needs to be managed, often with a combination of medication and lifestyle changes.

Arrhythmias encompass a costly, and potentially deadly, set of illnesses that effect a large portion of our population. Increased education and awareness of the impact of arrhythmias is a passion and driving force behind our Company and product development.

Reach out to us with any questions about this challenging disease and how we aim to improve the treatment of atrial fibrillation with our novel PURE EP System.

Kind regards,

Ken Londoner
